Eric Wangen-Hoch, Pastor
Pastor Eric grew up in Nazareth, PA, the youngest of three children. His father, John Hoch, was WWII veteran of the Normandy invasion who became a family practice physician. His mother, Louisa Hoch is a gifted knitter, active volunteer in her congregation, and a retired RN. Eric attended the University of Pittsburgh and then served in the Lutheran Volunteer Corp in Washington, DC.
Eric met his wife, Pastor Rachel Wangen-Hoch, while attending Pacific Lutheran Theology Seminary where they married in 1997. They spent the early years of their ministry serving in the Metro Washington DC area. Rachel and Eric moved to southwest Washington in early 2006 where Eric served as the pastor and mission developer for the Living Stones Prison Congregation, a church of incarcerated men serving time at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton.
Pastor Eric and Pastor Rachel served Bethlehem together as a pastoral team from the summer of 2013 to the autumn of 2018, when Rachel changed careers and shifted to being a volunteer and substitute at Bethlehem. They love Sedro-Woolley and the Skagit Valley and are happy to be raising their two sons in this wonderful community. The Wangen-Hoch family enjoys youth sports, hiking, camping, fishing, gardening, raising chickens, science fiction, and (video)gaming.
